Introduction: Milk banks within health institutions have a fundamental role promoting the consumption of human milk as the main nutritional source for newborns, which is considered important due to the benefits that its components contribute during the first 6 months of life. Objectives: To determine the current knowledge, attitudes and practices of breastfeeding mothers regarding breastmilk donation in Cayetano Heredia National Hospital. Materials and methods: Quantitative, descriptive, transversal study. Sample size calculation was performed using the Epidat program and was estimated using proportions, with a population trending to infinity, an expected proportion of 50,000% and a confidence interval of 95.0%. With the parameters described above, a sample size of 385 was obtained with a precision of 5,000%. The data collection instrument will be a questionnaire structured with the CAP strategy and previously subjected to validation by the judgment of a panel of 9 persons, to include neonatologists and breastfeeding consultants. Conclusion: The knowledge, attitudes, and practices of breastfeeding women about human milk donation shall serve as a key tool to promote human milk donation and strengthen the development of human milk banks.
