Background: The core competencies of dental surgeons lie in providing proper patient care. The competencies of a health manager involve ensuring efficient hospital processes and implementing them to achieve optimal quality in health services. Objective: To determine the frequency of dental surgeons holding leadership and management positions in health institutions. Methodology: A cross-sectional, observational, and retrospective design was employed, using data from the 2016 National Health User Satisfaction Survey (SUSALUD). Results: The 2016 survey revealed that only 1.66% of dental surgeons hold such positions, with adult males predominating (1.39%) and minimal participation in the Ministry of Health (MINSA) (1.11%). The average tenure in management roles is brief, less than one year (0.55%). Conclusion: The study shows that dental surgeons' participation in leadership roles is low, predominantly involving adult males (1.39%) and with limited tenure in management (less than one year). Additionally, most work in the MINSA (1.11%), highlighting their underrepresentation compared to other professions. The reasons for this low representation and limited tenure require further investigation.
