Pharmacies are establishments frequently visited in search of a solution to a health problem, mainly in developing countries. According to the latest annual statistics from SUSALUD, in Peru, pharmacies and drugstore have become the preferred care options over the years, however, the outlook during the pandemic and the reason for their choice are unknown. This study aimed to determine if there is a preference for care in drugstores and pharmacies and if this preference is associated with demographic, geographic and socioeconomic factors, during the pandemic (period from April to December 2020). It is an analytical cross-sectional study and was carried out based on the National Household Survey (ENAHO) 2020, obtaining secondary data of 21,624 people, of which 13,824 did not seek care and only 8,400 participants sought care in a center formal health, where it was observed that pharmaceutical establishments were slightly higher (4206-50.1%) in relation to those who went to a health establishment (4194-49.9%). To determine the factors associated with the preference of pharmacies and pharmacies, bivariate and multivariate analysis was used. In relation to the geographical factor, the prevalence is higher due to the choice of pharmacies and drugstores in urban areas 31% (95% CI=1.24-1.38) of Metropolitan Lima compared to other regions followed by the Coastal region. In relation to demographic factors, the influence of the choice of pharmaceutical establishments was greater in the male sex in his role as head of the family, obtaining 7% (95% CI=0.88-0.97) more prevalence than women, it is also observed that as the age of household members increases, its prevalence decreases due to going to pharmacies and drugstores (PR=0.99 CI95%=0.99-1.00). In relation to socioeconomic factors, the greatest preference for pharmacies and drugstores was observed in users with a secondary educational level 17% (95% CI=1.10-1.25) and in those who had insurance 29% (95% CI=0.68-0.74). Likewise, it was determined that employment was not a significant factor for the choice of pharmacies and drugstores (PR=1.01 CI95%=0.96-1.06). Finally, regarding the main health problems for which users went to pharmaceutical establishments, they were: symptoms or discomfort (3,156 people) and illness (1,401 people) and the reasons for choosing to go to these establishments in a pandemic, They are: not considering the condition serious (1,734 people), self-medication (907 people) and other undetermined (1,120 people).
