Rural Peru has historically suffered from great disparities in key development indicators such as income level, poverty, years of education, and demand for electricity. The present investigation has the objective of establishing the incidence of socio-economic factors in the demand for electrical energy in the rural area of Peru during the period 2016-2020. For this, data from the Residential Survey on Energy Consumption and Use (ERCUE) carried out by Osinergmin are used. The research is applied, not experimental, with a quantitative approach and a descriptive-correlational scope. The main quantitative findings find that electricity prices, unemployment, income and education significantly affect the demand for electricity in rural Peru during the period 2016-2020. It has been identified that an increase of one sol in the price of electricity per kilowatt generates a reduction in the demand for electrical energy by 0.17 kWh per month. Likewise, when the monthly income increases by 100 soles, the demand for electricity increases by 1 kWh/month and when a person passes a level of education (i.e. from primary to secondary), the demand for electricity increases by 3.14 kWh/ month. The results are consistent with the economic literature that suggests that greater demand for electrical energy can improve the quality of life of the population in both economic and social dimensions, likewise, a negative demand slope is found, in line with the canonical demand model. in microeconomic theory.
