Objectives. Identify the levels of physical activity in Human Medicine students of a Private University in Cusco, 2023, in addition to seeing if there is a relationship with gender and academic year. Also identify the presence of a sedentary lifestyle and its relationship with gender and academic year. Materials and methods. Descriptive – Cross-sectional study. The Short Version International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was applied to 300 students of the Professional Career of Human Medicine of a Private University in Cusco, during the period August - December 2023, to collect information on the time they dedicate to carrying out exercises. Physical Activity according to level of intensity and time spent sedentary. Results. 76.6% of Human Medicine students perform physical activity, 43.3% at a moderate level, and 33.3% have a high level of physical activity. Furthermore, 23.3% do not do physical activity or do not do enough. There were no differences in the practice of Physical Activity according to gender (p = 0.147) or year of study (p = 0.864). On the other hand, it was observed that 78.7% of students have a sedentary lifestyle, with a greater proportion in the female gender with 80.6%, versus 76.0% in the male gender; Regarding the academic year, a higher prevalence is evident in 5th year students with 86.0% and to a lesser extent in sixth year students with 68.0%. No statistically significant difference was evident in terms of sedentary lifestyle according to gender (p = 0.341) or academic year (p = 0.318). Conclusions. More than 76% of human medicine students from a private university in Cusco, Peru perform physical activity at moderate and/or high levels without difference by gender or academic year. Furthermore, 23.3% perform physical activity at a low level or do not perform physical activity. A sedentary lifestyle is present in 78.7% of students, without difference by gender or academic year. Finally, it is evident that a sedentary lifestyle exists at all levels of physical activity regardless of the amount of activity they perform.
