This research has the objective of studying the influence of the area of residence and the income range in indicators of financial culture of households in the department of Cusco in 2016. National and international literature has identified that financial programs can improve knowledge and attitudes towards the financial system, however, these programs are not adequately targeted to those who need them most. It is in this framework that a correlational descriptive study is carried out, with a quantitative approach and non-experimental design, together with a regression analysis that allows identifying the influence of living in the rural area and the income range in three questions that they capture the concept of financial culture. Data from the National Survey of Demand for Financial Services and Level of Financial Culture of the Superintendency of Banking and Insurance for the year 2016 are used. Among the main conclusions of the research, it is found that living in rural areas reduces the probability of calculating correctly an interest rate problem at 16.7%. Likewise, it reduces the probability of properly identifying the risk-return ratio by 11%. It is also identified that having a higher income range increases the probability of correctly calculating an interest rate problem by 9.45%. On the other hand, no significant effects are found in identifying the risk-return relationship or in understanding the concept of inflation.
