INTRODUCTION: Postpartum Depression is a mood disorder that occurs after the puerperium, which thanks to the existence of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EDPS) we can make a diagnosis. The existence of factors that are associated with generating this type of disorder in mothers has been described, the study of these factors being of great relevance for the prevention of this disease. OBJECTIVE: Identify and explain the factors related to postpartum depression in women aged 18 to 35 years at the Regional Hospital of Cusco, 2022. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It consists of a case-control study. The sample was made up of 330 postpartum women (110 cases and 220 controls) who were selected using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in a 2:1 ratio of cases to controls. Data analysis was performed using cross tables using the SBSS program version 29.0.1.0. RESULTS: The results showed that 33% of the postpartum women were diagnosed with postpartum depression. Factors associated with postpartum depression were identified as those that showed the existence of a significant association, which were: age in young people, representing 61.8% with an OR . of 1.81 indicating 1.81 more risk compared to adults; puerperal women with a secondary education level who make up 51.8% higher compared to the others within their category alone; Regarding the history of abortion, it will be observed that 40.9% with an OR of 1.93 increase the risk compared to postpartum women who do not have said history. Regarding physical (OR of 26.82), psychological (OR of 6.65), sexual (OR of 12.11) and economic (OR of 3.83) family violence, it was demonstrated that there was an increased risk of presenting postpartum depression compared to those who did not suffer family violence. CONCLUSIONS: It was possible to show a connection between certain factors and postpartum depression, highlighting that some of these factors present a greater risk compared to others that also proved to be significant, such as: young age, secondary education level, history of abortions and family violence. Highlighting the importance of being able to identify associated factors in time using them as parameters to evaluate and provide adequate information, in addition to having the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression scale that allows us to make an early diagnosis.
