In the environmental literature, the economic valuation of ecosystem services related to biodiversity and recreation, as well as the analysis of the income elasticity of the willingness to pay for these services, has aroused the greatest interest in the theme. The present study aims to find the empirical relationship between per capita income and the economic value (willingness to pay) of the most valued ecosystem services globally (biodiversity protection and recreational tourism). Using a meta-analysis, 77 and 96 economic value estimates for biodiversity protection and recreational tourism respectively were selected, incorporating variables such as biome type, ecosystem type, region, continent, applied method, among others. It was demonstrated that both ecosystem services fit better with an exponential function. Even with a large variation in income, it is concluded that the demand for protection of biodiversity and recreational tourism increases with the per capita income of the population. It was also found that the income elasticity of the willingness to pay is close to one for the first (represents a normal good), and greater than one, for the second, which behaves as a superior or luxury good.
