Quinoa is an important species in the Andean region for its nutritional value and its ability to thrive in marginal areas. There is a growing demand in the national and international market, increasing its cultivated area and the use of various technologies to increase yields. In the present investigation, the varieties Ancovinto (Chilean), Kellu (Bolivian), Blanca de Junín and Pasankalla (Peruvian) and two organic and conventional cultivation systems were studied under conditions of the Mantaro Valley, Junín in the central highlands of Peru. Independent experiments were established for each production system, using a randomized complete block design with three replicates. The Pasankalla and Blanca de Junín varieties present the highest yields in both cultivation systems. The Ancovinto and Kellu varieties presented very low yields mainly due to their high susceptibility to downy mildew and the environmental differences of their areas of origin. The highest yield was observed in the Blanca de Junín variety with 2494.8 kg/ha, higher than the Ancovinto variety with 159.4 kg/ha in the conventional cultivation system compared to the yield of 2036.45 kg/ha and 120.58 kg/ha in the organic system for both varieties, respectively. The chlorophyll content of the Blanca de Junín and Pasankalla varieties were similar on the four dates evaluated and with higher values than the varieties introduced in the two cultivation systems, probably due to greater damage to the photosynthetic area of the Ancovinto and Kellu varieties by downy mildew, the disease caused by Perenospora variabilis. The production costs in the organic farming system were higher than those of the conventional farming system, mainly due to the greater use of biopesticides and organic fertilizers.
