The aim of this following work is to evaluate vegetative growth of five cacao genotypes (Theobroma cacao L.) grown in the central jungle, specifically in San Ramón (Chanchamayo province). The study was carried out in an experimental plot of the RDI Jungle “La Genova”, of Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. Located in San Ramón, Chanchamayo, Junín, Peruvian central jungle. For this study a detailed analysis was carried out on 5 types of genotypes; VRAE 99, POUND 7, POUND 12, ICS 6 and ICS 39, of which the first 3 are of Peruvian origin and the last 2 are from Trinidad and Tobago. 7 evaluations were carried and was observed that Peruvian Forastero genotypes possessed better biometry (plant height, stem thickness, leaf count, etc.) than Trinitarian genotypes. Thus POUND 7, displayed greater vigor than VRAE 99, followed by POUND 12, while Trinitario ICS 6 and ICS 39 behaved poorly on field conditions. Additionally, phenotypic characteristics were determined for each genotype, such as: Leaf shape, leaf texture, young leaf color and pubescence.
