Chavimochic Irrigation, one of the main agro-exporting zones in Peru, is an arid, young agroecosystem with a highly intensive production system. The aims of the work were to characterize both, the production areas and the asparagus and avocado farms, determine the main factors of asparagus decline, and evaluate the sustainability of the avocado and asparagus farms. Structured surveys to the heads of farms and workers; a collection of the meteorological data; soil samples to perform population analysis of soil fungi, as well as visits for data collection in 17 farms of avocado and 12 asparagus farms of Chavimochic Irrigation, were done. Three production zones were determined, zone I, the warmest, with the largest area of avocado, zone II, with the highest crop diversity and zone III, the wettest. Four types of asparagus producers were characterized, the typification was related to the asparagus area, connection to the market, type of asparagus production, and profitability. In the avocado farms, three types were determined, being the size of the farm, the use of pesticides, and the certifications the differential aspects. The decline of asparagus in Chavimochic was related to the populations of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. asparagi, Meloidogyne incognita, and the presence of allelopathic substances. All the avocado and asparagus farms were socially sustainable. In economic terms, the avocado fields were sustainable; in asparagus, the III and IV fields. The avocado fields were more sustainable than the asparagus fields. In the avocado, the type III fields were sustainable in the economic, social, and environmental indicators. Environmental sustainability is the essential factor to be strengthened in Chavimochic irrigation.
