This research study named: “Evaluation of a flow subsurface vertical wetland constructed for greywater treatment” intended to supply an importan contribution to the treatment and reuse of greywater approach on ecological sanitation (ecosan), which in turn representing an option of economic and environmental viability in descentralization of conventional systems of wastewater treatment in our country. During the investigation was evaluated the conditions of operation and pollutants removal efficiency of a flow subsurface vertical constructed wetland which has been operating since 2009, and whose objective is the reuse of treated effluent for irrigation of green areas of the retreat house Alvernia de las Hermanas Franciscanas de Bamberga, located in the district Cieneguilla.The wetland constructed reached good levels of removal achieved values of 96.39% of BOD, 95.20% of COD, 97.48% of SST and 99.89% of thermotolerant coliforms of fecals. The wetland showed no odors, ponding, or presence of vectors on the surface,; however was observed lack of maintenance a pre-treatment units. It was determined surface organic load it was 26.32 g/m2 .day and surface hydraulic load it was 0.07 m3/m2.day for a flow of 3.65 m3/day, whose values are within the recommended ranges. Respect to vegetation the papyrus had a good adaptation throughout the research process; while the effluent complies the national legislation of OMS for reuse in irrigation of the green areas of the retirement house. Evaluation of water savings for operation WTL – ROTARIA system is estimated at 2029.84 m3 by 2012, while the cost savings is estimate at a value of 5074.60 Nuevos Soles. The calculated value not even begin to cover the cost of investment, however, the same operating conditions, it is estimated that the investment should be recovered in 10.8 years after the operation started,from which the returns are excepected in terms of sustainability for retirement home Alvernia.
