Peru’s agricultural exports have consolidated as the second most important segment of its trade relationship with the United States. This new reality has been accompanied by a process of international economic and commercial opening, framed in an environment of growing international prices for the sector. The purpose of this research is to analyze the significance of the Peru-United States Free Trade Agreement in the former’s exports. For this purpose, a monthly export price index was built, determining the impact of international prices on exports. The results suggest that during the period under evaluation, a 1 percent growth in the price index would have generated an approximate 1.98 percent growth in monthly exports. Concerning the treaty, it is inferred that the entry into force of the agreement would not have meant an inflection point for Peru’s exports. Furthermore, it is concluded that the sector’s dynamism and its successful exportable base in the last decade would not have been entirely explained by the tariff elimination under the treaty, but it would be the result of the sector’s structural conditions, an already favorable international environment, and other incentives.
