The present study was carried out in the facilities of the Rigoranch sheep farm of the Faculty of Zootechnics – UNALM, Lima – Peru. Its objective was to propose a forage based sustainable management plan for a dairy sheep herd. For that purpose, we collected information through inventories of forages and trees, existence of animals and physical facilities, machinery and equipment, with the bioeconomic evaluation of the initial situation of the farm being a central component of the study. A Further characterization of the production system was carried out through surveys and interviews with administrative and field personnel, taking into account the animal resource, forage management, administrative management and human resources. The diagnosis revealed serious administrative and management problems. The results of the study set the basis of the sustainable management plan by applying a comprehensive management approach that included better management of animal resources, management and utilization of forage, environmental management, administrative management and human resources; teaching and research service. The economic evaluation of the initial situation against the sustainable management plan using an incremental economic analysis shows an initial investment of S/. 138,176.08, a positive and increasing economic balance over time, that translated in a Internal Rate of Return of 33 percent and a Present Net Value of S/. 379,732.
