The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between high and low levels of plasma anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) on number and size of follicles, oocyte quality, and its behavior on the follicular wave in Suri alpacas. The study was carried out at the Research and Production Center Chuquibambilla of Altiplano’s National University (Umachiri, Puno) between January and March 2016; and November to March, 2017. 54 female alpacas in reproductive age were used, separating them by quartiles according to the hormonal levels and comparing the extreme groups. The high concentration group of AMH had a greater number of follicles than the low concentration group (20.51 ± 2.76 vs. 11.58 ± 2.55, respectively). No significant statistical differences between the AMH groups and the size of the follicles were found. In addition, there was dependence in the high AMH concentration group with quantity and quality of the oocytes (p = 0.02). In the follicular wave, the AMH is positive associated with the growth of the dominant follicle (r2 = 0.52). Results reveal that plasma AMH can be used as a biomarker to select the best donors for superovulation protocols in Suri alpacas.
