Objective: to determine the antibacterial effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Polygala sp (canchalagua) and Croton elegans (mosquera) in vitro on Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC:25923) compared to ampicillin. Materials and methods: the research is of explanatory type, quantitative approach, multifactorial experimental design. It was extracted by hydroalcoholic maceration technique. The antibacterial activity was determined by the Kirby-Bouer method. Results: phytochemical analysis of the hydroalcoholic extract of Polygala sp (canchalagua) and Croton elegans (mosquera) showed the presence of saponins, triterpenes, steroids, and phenolic compounds, as well as 55% and 35% of moisture, both plants soluble in alcohol. Yields of 12.63% and 13.16% were also obtained. In addition, bacterial inhibition was recorded in pharmacological synergism with an inhibition halo of 11.126 mm. Conclusions: the hydroalcoholic extract of Polygala sp (canchalagua) and Croton elegans (mosquera) shows antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus individually and in pharmacological synergism.
