Introduction: Currently, various cultures have different practices for treating diseases, including the management of diarrhea in children, where mothers play an essential role, reflecting the diversity in care. Objective: To understand the cultural practices that mothers use to treat diarrhea in their children under 5 years of age, with a Leininger approach, Chiclayo, 2023. Methods: Qualitative approach of ethnographic design, with a sample of 14 mothers of children under 5 years of age. at the Cerropon Health Center, and was determined by the criteria of saturation and redundancy, the sampling was non-probabilistic, for convenience. The data collection techniques were participant observation and ethnographic interview; In turn, the data were treated according to Spradley's thematic analysis. Throughout the research, ethical principles and criteria of scientific rigor were taken into account to guarantee the scientific quality of this research. Results: Three themes were obtained: Feeding practices exercised by mothers to treat diarrhea in their child, cleaning and hygiene practices that the mother exercises to care for her child who has diarrhea, and beliefs transmitted to treat diarrhea in the child. Conclusions: Cultural practices in the treatment of diarrhea vary according to community beliefs and traditions. Common patterns are observed, such as changes in diet, use of medicinal plants and hygiene practices. Some maternal care is essential to maintain, while others may need to be restructured to improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
