The participation of mothers in the care of their children is essential, since they have a great responsibility for their children from pregnancy and throughout their growth process, as well as in accompanying their development in a comprehensive manner until they finally reach a development appropriate for their age. Therefore, this research aimed to describe, analyze and understand the perception of the importance of controlling the growth and development of primiparas in a health center in Chiclayo, 2023, from a qualitative approach, with a descriptive methodological design; the sample was made up of primiparous mothers who go to the health center, the sampling was non-probabilistic, for convenience. The sample size was limited by saturation and redundancy. To collect data, the interview was carried out as a technique and a semi-structured interview guide was used as an instrument, which was validated by expert judgment and by pilot testing. The data were processed through content analysis and the ethical principles and criteria of scientific rigor were assumed. 4 categories were obtained: Perceptions about growth and development control; participation in the control of growth and development; deficient information during growth and development monitoring and timely intervention of mothers during growth and development monitoring. It is concluded that primiparous mothers had a favorable perception about the importance of growth and development controls, but it is evident that there are obstacles to their compliance and the information they receive does not meet their expectations.
