The management and handling of urban solid waste (MSW) in the city of Chiclayo is deficient, since, in joint supervision with the executive directorate of environmental health (DESA) and the ombudsman's office, it was possible to identify around fifty points critical of solid waste accumulation in Lambayeque, having a health risk in the district of Chiclayo of 69% and José Leonardo Ortiz of 81%, being considered very high. In this project, a study was carried out to size a WTE (waste to energy) plant, first we determined the amount of RSU that was generated per year from 2017 to 2022 in the province of Chiclayo, having in 2020 a production of 271 thousand tons, then it was classified and the calorific values for each type of waste were obtained, obtaining the percentage of useful waste for our plant, predominating waste such as organic matter, paper, cardboard and sanitary waste. Then we establish the equipment for our plant that uses Incineration as a thermal process and works with the simple Rankine cycle and regenerative cycle, in this way we obtain a useful electrical power produced by the plant of 38 MW and 52 MW respectively, with the 271 thousand tons of waste produced. Finally, the economic analysis was carried out in which it was concluded that the project is viable since we obtained an IRR of 12%. Finally, this project was proposed to reduce waste generation in the city, acquire more sustainable management and reduce dependence on fossil fuels for electricity generation.
