Introduction: Acute appendicitis is an acute inflammation of the appendix that can progress to perforation and peritonitis, which is associated with a higher rate of postoperative complications. In the population with complicated/perforated appendicitis, the most frequent postoperative complications of appendectomy include intra-abdominal infection, postoperative intraperitoneal abscesses, surgical wound infections, among others. However, on a national scale, there are not enough studies identifying the most frequent postoperative complications in adult patients following appendectomy for generalized peritonitis secondary to perforated appendicitis. Objectives: To identify the most frequent postoperative complications in patients with generalized peritonitis secondary to perforated acute appendicitis treated at a National Hospital in Lima between 2022 and 2023. Materials and Methods: The study design is a retrospective case series, which will use a population of patients over 14 years old diagnosed with generalized peritonitis secondary to perforated appendicitis who underwent laparoscopy or laparotomy between 2022 and 2023 at a National Hospital in Lima. The variables of interest will be collected from medical records using a data collection format and entered into a digital database, using Microsoft Excel. Conclusion: This study will help identify the postoperative complications in these patients and the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative factors associated with this population, contributing to the future implementation of specific protocols aimed at reducing their incidence and improving clinical outcomes in this type of patients.
