Introduction: The pandemic has affected the population in socioeconomic, mental, physical, and cognitive aspects, with enduring symptoms for months after discharge in COVID-19 survivors, especially in those admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). In Peru, one of the countries with the highest mortality rate, there is no objective evidence of the impact of COVID-19 on the cognitive function of patients discharged from the ICU. Objectives: To determine the frequency of objective cognitive impairment, and describe associated factors in patients discharged from an ICU stay related to COVID-19 in a hospital in Peru. They will be evaluated at the time of enrollment and 6 months thereafter. Materials and Methods: This will be a prospective single cohort. From the database of hospitalized patients in the ICU of Hospital Cayetano Heredia (HCH), the patients will be contacted by telephone and scheduled for neuropsychological appointments at the time of enrollment and 6 months after. Conclusions: This study aims to identify the frequency and characteristics of cognitive impairment in ICU survivors of COVID-19 in Peru, using objective assessments such as the ACE. The findings will provide a better understanding of neurocognitive sequelae and their associated factors, laying the groundwork for interventions to improve the quality of life of patients in a context of high vulnerability and increasing prevalence of post-COVID-19 sequelae.
