Objective: To know the clinical and epidemiological characteristics associated with hypoglycemia in newborns treated in the neonatology service of the MINSA II-2 Hospital, in the period January - December 2019. Materials and methods: Research type is descriptive - observational, and transversal. Based on the review of the medical records working with a sample of 25 newborns who were treated in the Neonatal Service of the II-2 TARAPOTO Hospital during the period January to December of the year 2019. The information was collected from the medical records of the patients, who meet the inclusion criteria. Results: As a result regarding the clinical characteristics of the newborns were, in 64% of cases of neonatal hypoglycemia, blood glucose levels ranged from 36 to 40 mg / dL 84% of cases, symptoms at least one sign and / or symptoms, the most frequent observed were hypoactivity (36%), weak suction (32%), vomiting (20%) and tachypnea (16%). The characteristics of the maternal history were obtained that 60% had ages of 20 to 34 years, 60% went to their CPN in six or more controls, in 76% of the cases the mothers presented at least one pathology during pregnancy, being overweight and obesity the most frequent with 52%, followed by the ITU with 36%, gestational diabetes with 24% and hypertensive disease of pregnancy with 16%. The most frequent epidemiological characteristics were 68% male, 52% were full-term newborns, 48%, normal weight per year, 68% of the cases were by cesarean delivery, in 92 % of cases of neonatal hypoglycemia, APGAR at minute was ≥ 7 points. 84% of cases of neonatal hypoglycemia present at least one associated pathology, the most frequent being prematurity and neonatal sepsis. Conclusions: The most frequent blood glucose level is 36-40 mg / dL; the most frequent signs and / or symptoms were hypoactivity, weak suction, vomiting and tachypnea; the diseases during pregnancy associated with hypoglycemia, including overweight and obesity the most frequent, followed by UTI, gestational diabetes and hypertensive disease of pregnancy, the most frequent neonatal epidemiological characteristics were, male and full-term sex, with normal weight, cesarean delivery, Among the most frequent associated pathologies are prematurity, and neonatal sepsis.
