Objective: To determine the main epidemiological and clinical characteristics of bronchial obstructive syndrome in patients under 1 year old, hospitalized at the pediatric service of the Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, in the period from January 2017 to May 2021. Materials and Methods: A basic, non-experimental descriptive, observational, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample consisted of 90 patients with a diagnosis of bronchial obstructive syndrome, ranging in age from 1 month to 1 year. The information was collected through a data collection sheet. Results: Bronchial obstructive syndrome cases predominated in 2017 (55.6%), followed by 2018 (23.3%) and 2019 (12.2%). The most frequent age was found in the group younger than 6 months with 73.3%. The predominant sex was male with 64.4 %. Immunization was complete in most hospitalized patients (82.1 %). Exclusive breast-feeding was occupied by the great majority of the affected patients (66.7 %). The pediatric population from rural areas was more affected (64.4 %). Overcrowding (57.1 %) and intra-household contamination (64.3 %) were observed in most of the cases under study. The main symptoms were cough (98.9 %), respiratory distress (82.2 %) and rhinorrhea (77.8 %). The signs with the highest percentage were wheezing (77.8 %), rhonchi (65.6 %) and retractions (64.4 %). The degree of severity according to the Bierman and Pierson-Tal score (modified) was predominantly mild with 91.1 %. Most of the affected patients presented clinical improvement after three days of hospitalization (56.7 % of the cases). Conclusions: Bronchial obstructive syndrome was more frequently observed in the group younger than 6 months old, male, from the rural area. Overcrowding and intra-household contamination contributed to the development of the condition. The most frequent symptoms and signs were: cough, respiratory distress, rhinorrhea, fever, wheezing, rhonchi and retractions. The predominant degree of severity was mild, followed in frequency by moderate degree, with no cases of severe degree. Most patients tend to clinical improvement after three days of hospital stay.
