The present study was carried out in the Juninguillo micro-basin, which is located in the district of Moyobamba, province of Moyobamba in the department of San Martin, and has as objectives to determine the biophysical characteristics and the determination of the water quality index, under the criteria considered by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). The methodology used was to make a survey of the study area through georeferencing, as well as the establishment of two sampling points taking into account the upper and middle part of the Juninguillo micro-basin; At each sampling point, water samples were taken to evaluate nine water quality parameters recommended by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), which are BOD5, dissolved oxygen, faecal coliforms, pH, temperature, nitrates, phosphates, total solids and turbidity. When compared to the environmental quality standards of water are included in the established ranges but need to be treated with conventional treatment to make them fit for human consumption. In terms of results we have that the study area is mainly composed of quartz sandstones. At a geomorphological level, it is mainly formed by denudational structural high mountains, which gives it its own geographical characteristics of internal and external geodynamic processes. Regarding the determination of the water quality index- ICA, of the nine parameters analyzed, the Juninguillo micro-watershed presents a value of 74.18. In conclusion, we have that the Quebrada Juninguillo, according to the classification scale of the National Sanitation Foundation of the United States (NSF), presents a water classified of good quality.
