This study aimed to establish the relationship between phonological awareness and reading comprehension in second grade students of elementary education in school N°. 00021 "Ricardo Palma" Pueblo Libre - Moyobamba, 2011. The sample consisted of 26 students of the second grade of primary education in school Nº 00021 "Ricardo Palma" of Pueblo Libre. The research was basic type, descriptive level, non-experimental research design, transactional correlational. The instruments used were test of phonological awareness and reading comprehension test. After data analysis has concluded that there is significant relationship between phonological awareness and reading comprehension in second grade students of primary education in school Nº 00021 "Ricardo Palma" Pueblo Libre - Moyobamba, 2011, with correlation coefficient Pearson 0,004 and p = 0,55 which is less than 0,01. The highest percentage of students (53,85%) of the school Nº 00021 "Ricardo Palma" Pueblo Libre are in the process of learning of phonological awareness. Likewise, the highest percentage of students (57,69%) in the Educational Institution Nº 00021 "Ricardo Palma" Pueblo Libre are learning beginning reading comprehension.
