Objective: To determine the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of retinopathy of prematurity in the Neonatology Service of the EsSalud Tarapoto Hospital in the period 2017-2019. Materials and methods: Basic, descriptive research type, the population was 172 and sample of 70 preterm infants with retinopathy of prematurity. Results: Epidemiological characteristics: Gestational age 28 to 31 weeks and 32 to 36 weeks (2017-20.0%); GA 28 to 31 weeks (2018- 11.4%), GA 28 to 31 weeks (2019-12.9%) and total GA 28 to 31 weeks with 44.3%. Male sex (2017-35.7%), in 2018 and 2019 the male sex with 15.7% and the total male sex with 67.1%. The birth weight of 1500-2500 g (2017 = 25.7%); weight of 1001-1500 g (2018=12.9%) (n= 9) and birth weight of 1001-1500 g (2019= 15.7%) and the total birth weight of 1,001 to 1,500 gr with 48.6%. The type of cesarean delivery (2017=25.7%); (2018=20.0%), (2019 = 22.9%) and the total was cesarean delivery with 68.6%. Clinical characteristics: The Apgar 4 to 6 points - Moderate depression (2017=24.3%); in (2018=17.1%) and (2019 = 15.7%); and of 3 years, the Apgar 4 to 6 points - Moderate depression with 57.1%. If you needed Oxygen Therapy (2017=31.4%); (2018=21.4%) (2019=22.9%) and total that need it 75.7%. Stage I (2017=40.0) prevailed; (2018=21.4%) and (2019=22.9%); and zone I or location of prematurity retinopathy in 2017 predominates zone I (2017=30.0%); (2018 and 2019 = 14.3% (n= 10). The highest incidence was in 2017 with 48.6%. There is an association between GA and weight (p 0.034). There is an association between Stage I and GA 28 to 31 weeks (p 0.010); Stage I and birth weight of 1000 – 1500 gr (p 0.035), Stage I and Apgar (p 0.010), Stage I and if I use oxygen therapy (p 0.020) and Stage I and location in zone I (p 0.046). There is no association between stage I and sex (p 0.259), and Stage and type of delivery (p 0.303) Conclusion: There is higher frequency in the characteristic gestational age of 28 to 31 weeks, male sex, weight from 1,000 to 1500 g, type of cesarean delivery, Apgar from 4 to 6 points, if I need oxygen therapy and Stage II.
