The purpose of this research was to develop a technical engineering alternative, to provide security and protection against floods in the town of Shanao caused by the waters of the river of the same name at the time of maximum avenues and that are caused by frequent and intense rainfall. The town of Shanao is located on the left bank of the river, almost every year, it is flooded by the waters of the Mayo River, affecting the houses and streets of this town, causing great economic losses to the affected population, besides causing problems of health due to the accumulation of water in the lower parts of the town, giving rise to the appearance of mosquitoes and mosquitoes. For the solution of the flood problem, it has been proposed to propose and develop a technical alternative design hydraulic structure that allows to protect, from erosion and flooding caused by the waters of the Mayo River to the urban riparian area of the town of Shanao in time of maximum avenues. To carry out this proposal or solution alternative, it has been necessary to carry out the basic studies of Engineering such as: Soil study, Hydrological and Hydraulic Study and Topographic Study, as well as the application of existing methodologies for these designs applying the acquired knowledge as student at the university.
