At Yurimaguas, inoculation of Pontoacolex corethrurus in soil where treeseedlings were grown hat resultad in significant increases of growh. An experiment was designet to tes the hypothesis that such improvements were due to a higher rate of mycorrhizal intection. The experiment used a completely randomized block desiqn with three tree species (Bixa orellana, Eugenia stipitata y Bactris gasipaes}, tree levels of earthworm biomass (0, 350 and 700 mg), 9 evaluations (every 15 days far D.orellana and 3 plants per repetition, i.e., a total of 252 plants in the experiment. overrall plant biomass of B.orellana waa significantly increased at day 120, the average biomass was respectively 5.9 g and 8.0 q. Earthworm density first incresed and, at the end of the experiment significantly decresed, mineral nitrogen of 58.2 and 50.5 μg N g•1 of soil, were recorded in treatments inoculated with 350 and 700 mq. Mycorrhizal infection rates remaned similar with respective values of 15, 55 and 75 % in treatments with inoculation of o, 350 and 700 mg. Plant biomass of E.atipitata was at day 240, the average biomass was respectively 3.9 g and 4.2 g. Earthworm density first incresed and, at the end of the experiment of 4. 4 and 3, a more than to initiate values, mineral nitrogen of 18. 6 and 40. 6 μg N g•1 of soil, were recorded in treatments inoculated with 350 and 700 mg. Mycorrhizal infection rates remaned similar with respective values of 18.3, 62.6 and 50 % in treatments with inoculation of o, 350 and 700 mg. Biomass of B.gasipaes was at day 210, the average biomass of 6.6 g and 6.1 g. Earthworm density first incresed and, at the end of the experiment of 1.4 and 0.6, more than to initiate values, mineral nitrogen of 43.9 and 53,0 μg N g -1 of soil, were recorded in treatments inoculated with 350 and 700 mg. Mycorrhizal infection rates remaned similar with respective values of 10, 31 and 44 % in treatments with inoculation of o, 350 and 700 mg.
