The present prospective study on breastfeeding and ablation is of the longitudinal descriptive type. It was carried out in the city of Tarapoto between November 1992 and July 1993 in order to know the prevalence of breastfeeding and ablation, typify the phase in which the city of Tarapoto is located and establish The fundamental factor that determines early ablation. The city of Tarapoto was divided into 8 strata; Statistically the sample size was selected, obtaining 252 manzanas from the 636 that comprise it, and to apply the survey, personnel were trained, to compile the information was worked with 725 data from which it has been deduced that there is a significant population of adolescent women (15%), 62.4% of nursing mothers belong to the highest fertility rate groups (20-30 years); 60.5% do not have adequate instructional level and 84% are housewives. TGF (2.38%) increases with age. Breastfeeding is considered as a contraceptive method by 59.2% of women; Only 18.3% of them use it as such, because most (78%) use some type of method, the IUD (25%) being the most used. 56% of breastfeeding mothers have begun menstruation. The prevalence of lactation is 76%, with carbohydrates predominating (66.6%) in the diet, and the prevalence of lactation is 94.1%, with an average duration of 8.6 months, data that allows us to typify the City of Tarapoto in the traditional phase. The educational level is the main factor that determines the precocious ablation and it is the care centers that basically provide breastfeeding.
