OBJECTIVE: To determine the sociodemographic frequency, manifestations and clinical complications of patients treated for an ophidian accident in the Hospital II - 2 MINSA-TARAPOTO in the period from 2016 to 2017. METHODOLOGY: Observational, descriptive, according to the research design, retro prospective; according to its prolongation in time, quantitative; according to the emphasis in the nature of the data handled since the preponderance of the study of the data is based on the quantification and calculation of the same. RESULTS: During the period studied 2016-2017, at Hospital II Tarapoto, 32 confirmed cases of ophidism were registered in the statistical base of this hospital. Therefore, the results are the following: The minimum age was 4 years of age and the maximum age of 75 years of age, with an average age of 39 years, and finally a standard deviation of 24. The province with the most cases San Martin was 34.4%, followed by Picota (21.9%), the least frequent was Huallaga (3.1%). It was found that 65.6% was predominantly male and 34.4% predominantly female. More frequently it was in the months of November to May, with a predominance of the months of January (25%) and May (25%). The highest frequency of cases was during the morning (59.4%) and less frequently during the night (6.3%). Agricultural work was the most frequent activity (65.6%), and the least frequent was with (3.1%) displacement through his farm. The most frequent location was in the finger with one (21.9%), followed by the foot (18.8%), and the least frequent was in the head with one case (3.1%). Only 68.8% of patients identified the type of snake, according to the cases reported in the clinical history, and 31.1% did not identify but they were diagnosed as an ophidian accident. Severe cases were identified in 34.38%, moderate in 21.88% and slight 43.75%. The most frequent local manifestations were edema in 28 cases (87.5%), pain in 23 cases (71.9%), erythema in 11 cases (34.4%) and paresthesia in 8 cases (25%). There were 29 cases (90.6%) that used antivenom serum and 3 cases (9.4%) that did not use antivenom serum. CONCLUSIONS: The presentation of severe cases was in 34.38% of the population obtained, having local complications in 2 cases (6.3%) abscess, 1 case (3.1%) of cellulitis, 1 case (3.1 %) and 1 case (3.1%) of necrosis.
