This Thesis work, was carried out in the "3 de Octubre" Village, located in the valley of "Bajo Mayo", belonging to the Province and Departament of San Martín, which is characterized for a dry tropical forest climate (1,200 mm rainfall/year and 703 mm during the experiment), with the objective to study the affect of the NPK-MULCH interaction in the increment of maize yield and the respective economical analysis of the best treatments. It was used maize crop, Marginal 28 Tropical variety, installed on the experimental desing of divided plots, corresponding to bíg plots to the mulch and no mulch factor, and to sub-plots, the fertilizer factor. The experiment was established on a hillside with 23% of gradient with secondary ferest (Purma), using the residues of the vegetation as a mulch. Generally speaking the soil is classified as a vertisol (Chromoustert). From the results obtained is possible deduce that the outputs of maize crop are increased with the NPK-MULCH interact.ion, with the highest yield correspanding to the fertilizer formulate 140- 60-0 (5,379 Kg/Ha). The mulch is responsible for a higher assimulation of nutrients due to the higher humidity accumulation in the soil for periods of higher necessity of the maize crop; so, the days to the flowering period , is also influenced for that interaction , with regard to the fertilization, potasium fertilizer, which has the most conspicuous influence in the reduction of the days to the flowering, continuous by the phosphorous fertilization. Finally, for all the reasons before soid, it is recomemded the use of mulch in maize plantation, cultivated on hillside using the same residue of the vegetation, let us say applied "In situ"' in the same conditions of the experiment, due to the large quantity of favourable properties, not only for the soil, bat also for the crop.
