The elaboration of the present entitled work "Determining Factors of the competitiveness in cacao production in order to take decisions and its better development in San Martin region" obeys to the expectancies of developing the cacao sector and responding better to the requirements of this changing and globalized society. To identify the Factors of the Competitiveness, I studied them through the competitiveness "diamond" of Porter, to which I executed opinion polls to the cacao makers of the zone in study, statistical information on the side of public and private institutions dedicated to the production, commercialization, investigation and consultantship activities among another sources; I made this analysis taking into account the cacao’s situation regional, national and international level. The results of the study indicate that the determining factors of the cacao sector's competitiveness of San Martin region are Favorable. I conclude that the most important factors which have influence over the competitiveness of the productive cacao companies in San Martin region are: In the dotation of factors, The San Martin region counts on conditions of: Grounds, climate and optimal altitudes in order to cultivate the cacao; the utilized technology is made of halfway level; The infrastructure to the investigation, development and innovation is in increasing development, principally because of ONG’s and in part for Government's institutions. In demand's conditions, the demand of international market is guided to consume especial cacaoes of first-rate and differentiated, in this sense the San Martin region has come incrementing its participation in the international market of especial cacao, with high level of differentiation. In the connected and supportive sectors, there are evidences of improvement as to the planification, coordination and commitment level that exists among the public and private sector's organisms with the cacao subsector. In the determining strategy and the rivalry of the participants in the sector, it is observed that the great majority of the cacao makers have minor farmsteads to 3.5 hectares per family (high fragmentation). At the present time, the commercialization canals utilized for the cacao makers are many intermediary agents (Brokers). At present, the productive cacao companies of San Martin are the main cacao makers nationally and it is the most competitive of the country. The profitability for each five hectares starting from the 5th year of production about conventional cacao is 115%, it represents s/. 4,217.60 Monthly. To the organic- cacao cultivation, the profitability is 106 % for each five hectares starting from the 5th year of production and it represents S/. 4,217.60 Monthly.
