The objective of this research was to describe the use of covers for weed control in coffee cultivation in the province of Rioja, San Martín 2022. Regarding the methodology, the study was descriptive and exploratory, based on reliable sources and bibliographic background of the last 5 years, the types of vegetation cover were described and the benefits of vegetation cover for weed control in coffee cultivation were described. Therefore, it is concluded that the use of vegetation cover in coffee cultivation in the province of Rioja is an effective and sustainable strategy for weed control. Different types of vegetative cover, such as perennial Poaceae, perennial Fabaceae and Calopogonium, offer a number of significant benefits. These include the suppression of weeds by competing for resources such as light, water and nutrients, which reduces competition and limits their spread. In addition, the vegetative cover acts as a physical barrier that makes it difficult for new weeds to establish. Besides their effectiveness in weed control, vegetative covers also contribute to soil moisture conservation, improve soil structure, prevent erosion and reduce competition for resources. In conclusion, the implementation of vegetative cover in coffee cultivation provides multiple benefits and is a recommended strategy to maintain an environment free of weeds in an effective and sustainable manner.
