In the development of the investigation was made with the macrophytes Eichhornia crassipes (Water hyacinth) and Lemna minor (duckweed) for the treatment of domestic wastewater from the Azungue brook in the city of Moyobamba. This work sought to improve the quality of the brook as it is used as the receiver of domestic wastewater and therefore is contaminated. For the development of the research it was decided to use the system by batches, which consisted of installing two 72-liter glass tanks of domestic wastewater each for their subsequent treatment with the macrophytes. The parameters to be evaluated of the domestic wastewater were total suspended solids, pH, BOD, temperature, turbidity and thermotolerant coliforms, which after the last sample taken were compared with the Maximum permissible limits for PTAR effluents (DS N ° 003- 2010-MINAM) so as to be able to determine if the plants were efficient by removing the values with which the water entered the tanks. In both systems, aquatic plants maintain the conditions of aerobic degradation of organic matter and filtered sediments, thanks to their roots, where an intense activity of microorganisms develops. After all the work done, it was concluded that the Eichhornia crassipes is more efficient in the removal of parameters, since it is well below the values that the Lemna minor showed, which was also efficient to a lesser degree.
