Objective: To determine the factors associated with neonatal asphyxia (AN) in newborns delivered by cesarean section at the Neonatology Service of Hospital II-2 Tarapoto. January-December 2019. Method: An analytical, retrospective, cross-sectional, retrospective observational study was carried out, comprising 169 newborns born by cesarean section at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto during 2019; in whom the neonatal clinical history was reviewed in search of antepartum, intrapartum and neonatal factors. The data were analyzed in the SPSS version 26 program, determining the association by calculating the Odds ratio and significance by Pearson's Chi-square. Results: The frequency of AN was 20.1%. Among the associated antepartum factors were maternal age less than 19 years, which was present in 44.1% of the neonates with asphyxia (OR: 3.02, 95%CI: 1.36-6.68), having inadequate prenatal controls (OR: 3.08, 95%CI: 1.37-10.79) and preeclampsia, which was present in 32.4% of the pregnancies that ended with a newborn with AN (OR: 3.83, 95%CI: 1.56-9.38). No significantly associated intrapartum factors were found. Of the neonatal factors, low birth weight (OR: 3.18, p=0.005) and prematurity (OR: 3.6, p=0.004) were found to be significantly associated with AN. Conclusion: Maternal age under 19 years, inadequate prenatal control, preeclampsia, low birth weight and prematurity are factors associated with neonatal asphyxia in newborns delivered by cesarean section at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, 2019.
