The objective of this research was to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections through the proper management of hospital solid waste at the San Gabriel clinic, for which a sample of 400 health professionals were trained in a virtual way through the clinic's virtual platform. The training process consisted of 6 training sessions on the following topics: biosafety and solid waste concepts, solid waste conditioning, solid waste segregation, intermediate storage of solid waste, internal collection and transportation, and finally, central or final storage. The results showed that the estimated daily production of bio-contaminated waste was 232.76 kg, special waste production was 11.23 kg/day, while the production of common waste was 218.58 kg/day; bio-contaminated waste included patient care waste, especially bags containing human blood and blood products, surgical and anatomo-pathological waste, and sharps and biological waste. Among the special wastes, pharmaceutical, hazardous chemical and radioactive wastes were identified. As a result of the training sessions, 2 cases of infections were recorded in August, 1 case in September and zero cases in October, November and December. Finally, the evaluation of solid waste treatment had an acceptable level in the stages of conditioning, segregation and primary storage, internal transport of waste within the clinic and in the final storage stage.
