The objective of the following research is to evaluate how biofilms in the drinking water distribution system influence the water quality consumed by the population of the Calvario neighborhood of the city of Moyobamba, determine the presence of biofilms in the distribution system of Drinking water, characterize the physical, chemical and microbiological parameters of the water consumed and determine what health risks for drinking water consumption is exposed the population of the Calvario neighborhood of the city of Moyobamba. Four water samples were analyzed, two in distribution networks and two in household connections, taking into account that the formation of biofilms in water pipes after purification treatment is due to the time of aging and the type of material that is used, such as PVC, water arrival pressure and infiltrations. The water purification processes manage to eliminate a large part of the bacteria present, however, they do not manage to eliminate them in their entirety; the results obtained in the laboratory indicate that biofilms in the drinking water distribution system influence the quality of water consumed by the population of the Calvario neighborhood of the city of Moyobamba. The health risks to which the population of the Barrio de Calvario are exposed are infectious, parasitic and gastrointestinal diseases since contaminated water and food are considered as the main vehicles involved in the transmission of bacteria, viruses or parasites.
