Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with infection of the operative site in patients after surgery for acute appendicitis in the II-2 - Tarapoto Hospital, from January - November 2016. Materials and Methods: Type Applied research, descriptive level, design not experimental and transversal. The population, 470 patients post operated for acute appendicitis. Results: 470 post-appendectomies patients, 78 performed ISO, of which 32.1% were female, 67.9% male, altered nutritional status in 45 patients, and no statistically significant association was found. Associated diseases in 11 patients, with no statistically significant association with any comorbidity. Age over 40 years, 42 patients, less than 40 years old to 36 patients, with 0R of 2.07, 95% CI of 1.0-4.3 and P-value of 0.048. Duration of surgery greater than 40 minutes in 54 patients and less than 40 minutes in 24 patients, OR 3.11, 95% CI of 1.48-6.51, P-value 0.002. Hospitalization time greater than 4 days in 19 patients and less than 4 days in 59 patients, with 0R 3.7, 95% CI 1.18- 11.64, P-value 0. 019.Type of clean surgical wound contaminated, contaminated and dirty represent 45.3% 0R of 6.16, 95% CI 2.8-13.5, P-value 0.00. Conclusion: the risk factors that are associated with infection of the operative site are: age, duration of surgery, time of hospitalization and type of operative wound.
