Prognostic factors of severity associated with acute biliary pancreatitis in adults. Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, January 2020 to December 2022 Inflammation of the pancreas due to gallstones occurs mainly when a gallstone obstructs the pancreatic duct. This occurs at the level of the Oddi's sphincter. The global incidence of acute pancreatitis has experienced a gradual increase over time and ranges between 4.9 and 74.4 per 100,000 inhabitants. In Peru, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health in 2009, an incidence of 28 cases of pancreatitis per 100,000 inhabitants was recorded. The objective of this research is to determine the severity prognostic factors associated with acute biliary pancreatitis in adult patients who attended the II-2 Hospital of Tarapoto, from January 2020 to December 2022. It is a basic, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective design. The sample consisted of 65 medical records of patients with a diagnosis of acute biliary pancreatitis who were treated at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto from January 2020 to December 2022. The results showed that 32.3% of the patients had diabetes mellitus and most of them developed severe pancreatitis with 52.4%, being statistically significant with a p 0.000 and chi2 8.5. The prolonged use of drugs was 43.1% of the total number of patients, being statistically significant with a p 0.003 and with chi2 of 6.1. In conclusion, diabetes mellitus represented almost 9 times the risk factor for developing severe pancreatitis and the prolonged use of drugs almost 6 times the risk factor for developing severe pancreatitis.
