The present research work had as objective to identify the personal and family characteristics that are related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages in nursing students of the Universidad Nacional de San Martín Tarapoto, Period July - December 2020. Methodology: non-experimental descriptive correlational cross-sectional approach, the sample consisted of 145 nursing students of the Universidad Nacional de San Martín Tarapoto, the technique used was the interview and the instrument used was a questionnaire, prepared by the author: Flores Herrera Jessica. Results: 81.4% are between 17 and 22 years old, 127 of the participants (87.6%) are female, 133 participants (91.7%) are single, 109 participants (75.2%) are dedicated only to study, most of the students (23.4%) are in their 4th year of studies, 52 of the participants (35.9%) live in the district of Morales, 79 of the participants (54.5%) depend on their parents and finally, 97 of the participants (66.9%) profess the Catholic religion. Furthermore, 57.9% (84) present unfavorable personal characteristics; regarding shyness, antisocial behavior and decision making, followed by 42.1% (61) present favorable personal characteristics, 69.7% (101) present unfavorable family characteristics, regarding parent-child bonding, family norms and rules, and only 30. 3% (44) present favorable family characteristics; 61.4% (89) do not consume alcoholic beverages, followed by 28.3% (41) present risk consumption of alcoholic beverages, 8.3% (12) present harmful consumption of alcoholic beverages, and 2.1% (3) present excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages. In conclusion, the chi-square statistical test showed that there is a significant relationship (p=0.01) between the personal and family characteristics of the students and the consumption of alcoholic beverages, thus contrasting the stated hypothesis.
