The present investigation aimed to describe the impacts generated by deforestation in the last 10 years in the San Martín region. Regarding the methodology, the study was descriptive and exploratory, using reliable bibliographic sources and background. The deforested area in the region was estimated in the last 10 years, and alternatives were proposed to reduce the impact generated by deforestation. It is concluded that the deforested area in the last 10 years in the region has been decreasing, during the period from 2012 to 2022, with a total deforested area of 212,864 ha-1, which has had uneven levels. In 2012 and 2014 it reached the highest level, deforesting 29,113 and 26,400 ha-1. It decreased in 2017 and 2019 to 12,501 and 11,034 ha-1 deforested, indicating a variation of up to 62.10% less compared to 2012, a worrying problem that requires environmental attention and action. Alternatives to reduce the impact generated by deforestation are promoting sustainable agriculture, reforestation programs, strengthening forest governance, use of sustainable technologies, education programs, awareness, cooperation and collaboration that are fundamental in this challenge caused by agricultural expansion, logging, illicit crops, construction of access roads. This generates impacts such as habitat loss, water stress, recharge of aquifers, displacement of native communities, health, social conflicts, unsustainable livestock farming, climate change, loss of sustainable tourism.
