The present research entitled "Effect of the use of chemical preservatives for citrus on the post-harvest shelf life of Valencia oranges (Citrus sinensis "valencia")" was carried out in the Villa Prado sector of the district of Juanjuí and had as general objective to determine the effect of the application of chemical preservatives for citrus on the post-harvest shelf life of Valencia oranges. For this purpose, an oranges plot was selected from the Villa Prado sector, from which a sample of 180 oranges was taken, which were divided into groups of 36 oranges in each of the 5 treatments. The research was experimental and a completely randomized design (CRD) was used to determine the effect of treatments on the postharvest conservation of Valencia oranges. In this research, the following conclusions were reached: 1) the physicochemical characteristics of Valencia oranges from the Villa Prado sector are within the range required by orange quality standards and vary in a similar way in all treatments during storage time at ambient conditions (T = 26°C-30°C and RH = 56%-68%); 2) at ambient conditions the chemical products: sodium bicarbonate, borax, sodium o-phenylphenate and thiabendazole, during storage time, showed no significant difference with the control; 3) the best storage time for Valencia orange from the Villa Prado sector at ambient conditions is three weeks (21 days), during which time the quality of the product is maintained.
