Pre and postoperative characteristics of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto, 2021 Objective: To describe the pre and postoperative characteristics of patients operated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto during the period 2021. Material and methods: A basic, simple descriptive, retrospective, observational research was carried out. The population consisted of 118 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 2021. The sample size was 90 patients, and a self-prepared collection form was used. Results: the distribution of patients by age was 1 patient (1%) <18 years, 43 (48%) between 18 to 39 years old, 36 (40%) between 40 to 59 years old and 10 (11%), ≥ 60 years. Furthermore, 19 (21%) were male while 71 (79%) were female, 27 (30%) had a normal weight according to body mass index, 46 (51%) were overweight, and 17 (19%) were obese. Preoperative signs and symptoms were Murphy's sign in 85 patients (94%), vomiting in 67 (74%), biliary colic pain in 88 (97%) and nausea in 84 (93%), 74 patients (82%) had no comorbidities, 78 patients (87%) were operated for acute calculous cholecystitis, 71 patients (79%) presented a leukocyte count in normal values in the ancillary examinations. The presence of alterations in serum liver biochemistry was observed in 51 patients (56.7%), with a predominance of elevated gamma glutamyl transpeptidase, 33 (36.7%), and elevated alkaline phosphatase. Among the ultrasound findings, gallbladder lithiasis without signs of cholecystitis was observed in 43 patients (48%), in 24 (27%) a thickened gallbladder wall, and in 18 (20%) with a dilated gallbladder. In the postoperative period, tubular drain was placed in 11 patients (12%), 5 patients (6%) were converted to open surgery, pain was present in 88 (98%), vomiting in 8 (9%) and bile duct lesion in 1 patient (1.1%); in most cases hospitalization was from 0 to 1 day with 76 patients (85%), and discharge conditions were favorable in 90 (100%). Conclusions: most of the patients operated on for lap chole are women and within an age range between 16 and 39 years, the predominant body mass index is overweight, biliary colic type pain, nausea and Murphy's sign is the most frequent symptomatology. The most common diagnosis is acute calculous cholecystitis, leukocytes in normal values and alteration in serum biochemistry occurred in 57% of the serum tests. The most frequent ultrasound finding was gallbladder lithiasis without signs of cholecystitis and thickening of the gallbladder; the most frequent hospitalization period was 0 to 1 day and 100% of the patients of the study were discharged with favorable conditions. The placement of tubular drains was not necessary in most surgeries, and the postoperative complications were postoperative pain, vomiting, and conversion to open surgery.
