In this research the richness and abundance of lepidoptera were evaluated during the months of July 2017 to January 2018 as indicators of the state of conservation of the forest of the Pabloyacu Production and Research Center of the National University of San Martln - Tarapoto, School of Ecology. To achieve the objectives, the study area was first identified, delimited in 06 transects of 50 x 20 m2 in each gradient, where a thorough search was conducted of leaves, stems and branches for the identification of eggs and larvae; species were also captured with entomological nets and a survey was made of the banks of the Pabloyacu microbasin, using attractive baits, placing them every 100 m from the shore of the microbasin, and monitored from 08:00 to 15:00 hours, where the temperature was the highest, The richness and abundance of lepidoptera were identified as indicators of the state of conservation of the forest, detennining the types of habitats present in the altitudinal gradients; as well as identifying the host and food plants of the indicator Lepidoptera, identifying the species of lepidoptera considered indicators of environmental quality and finally detennining the state of conservation of the forest. lt is concluded that the greatest diversity is registered in the gradient that goes from 1200 m.a.s.l. to 1600 m.a.s.l., results that would express a good state of conservation.
