Risk Factors Associated with Cardiovascular Diseases in Adults Over 40 Years Old. Hospital II-2 Tarapoto. January 2018 - December 2022 Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, significantly affecting the adult population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 17.9 million people die from cardiovascular diseases each year, accounting for 31% of all global deaths. The objective was to determine the risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases in adults over 40 years old treated at Hospital II-2 Tarapoto. A cross-sectional case-control design was used with a population of 420 medical records, from which 264 were selected for the study. The results showed a significant association (p < 0.05) between male gender (53.4%), age (28.4%), and family history (72.7%) as non-modifiable factors, as well as various modifiable factors and the presence of cardiovascular diseases. Sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption, diabetes mellitus, and LDL cholesterol were highlighted as prevalent risk factors. In conclusion, the non-modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular diseases are gender, age, and family history, with significance less than 0.05. Modifiable risk factors include obesity, alcohol and tobacco consumption, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and LDL cholesterol, also with significance less than 0.05.
