The general objective of this research was to establish the relationship between the regional budget and investment in rural sanitation for the San Martin region, period 2010-2018; it was a study of the applied type, descriptive-correlational level, non-experimental design and longitudinal cut, being the study sample the documentary collection of the regional budget in rural sanitation of the San Martin Region from 2010 to 2018, and a documentary analysis guide was applied as an instrument for data collection. As main results, the modified institutional budget (PIM) showed a progressive growth from 1,557,868 soles in 2010 to 3,841,129,279 soles in 2018, while investment in rural sanitation decreased from 31,157,359 soles in 2010 to 11,354,153 soles in 2018. Finally, the research concluded that there is a direct and significant relationship between the regional budget and investment in rural sanitation in the San Martin region during the periods 2010-2018, because a bilateral significance of less than 0. 05 and a Pearson correlation coefficient of -.727 were obtained, being considered the relationship as inverse, because the budget allocated to the San Martin region increased in the periods under study, however, there was a decrease in investment in rural sanitation, which means that the efforts made by the Regional Government of San Martin did not prioritize the implementation of sanitation projects.
