The objective of the following study was to determine the relationship between family functioning and school motivation of children in the 6th grade of Primary Education of the I.E. N ° 00170, of the Naciente de Río Negro in the year 2016. The type of research was applied, with descriptive level and correlational design, with a sample of 25 children of the 6th grade of Primary Education. The instruments used were the FACES III family cohesion and adaptability assessment scale, and the school motivation questionnaire, validated by expert criteria. The alternative hypothesis affirmed that the relationship is significant between the family functioning and the school motivation of the children of the 6th grade of Primary Education of the I.E. N ° 00170 of the Naciente de Río Negro, in the year 2016. The results indicate that the level of family functioning is very inadequate in 16% and 32% is inadequate, meaning that there is a lack of capacity to solve problems effectively, with absence of unity and flexibility. In addition, the level of school motivation is low by 28%, that is, they do not feel, that they have enough reasons to continue studying or simply do not feel like studying or doing homework. Finally, it has been concluded that with a confidence level of 95%, the relationship is significant between family functioning and school motivation of children in the 6th grade of Primary Education of the I.E. N ° 00170, of the Naciente de Río Negro, during the year 2016. Being that, between family functioning and school motivation there is a moderate positive correlation ( ), with a 33.04% variation in the school motivation variable, because it is explained by family functioning in cohesion and adaptability. Meaning that there are other factors that are not subject of study in the present investigation, which intervene in school motivation.
