The research entitled "Parental involvement and academic performance of first grade secondary school students of I.E. 62172, Yurimaguas, 2019" had as general objective to determine the relationship between parental involvement and the academic performance of students. This was a basic research, with correlational design, whose sample consisted of 64 students of the first grade of secondary education. The survey and observation techniques were used for data collection, and the instruments used were the questionnaire and the academic performance record. The results show that regarding the learning monitoring dimension, 62.5% were high, 29.7% were medium and 7.8% were low. In terms of parent-teacher interaction in the learning process, 64.1% were high, 29.7% were medium and 6.2% were low. In terms of academic performance in the area of communication, 43.5% of the students reached expected achievement, 31.2% at the beginning, 21.9% in process and 1.6% were outstanding. Finally, it is concluded that the relationship between parental involvement with academic achievement in the area of communication was high positive with ρ=0.876, with its T-Student value Tc = 14.30 which is greater than Tt = 1.670.
