The objective of this research was to determine the development of the different propagation methods for cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) in the San Martin region during the last five years; the methodology of the study was descriptive and exploratory, using current sources and bibliographic background, describing the propagation methods and characterizing the production of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) in the San Martin region during the last five years. It was concluded that, the methods of propagation in cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) in the San Martin region, is divided into two, sexual propagation and asexual propagation, highlighting the asexual propagation, in which there are methods of propagation by grafting, propagation by layering and in vitro culture. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages, the use of any of these methods will depend on local conditions, the characteristics of the varieties of cocoa and the objectives of the farmer. According to the characterization of cocoa production (Theobroma cacao L. ), is grown in the ten provinces the number of producers has not varied from 25 927, the installed area increased to 65 028.8 ha-1 being the province of Tocache the one with the largest installed area, the average yield increased to 1,205 t/ha-1, the region presented a growth between 2018 to 2022, from 56 129.4 tons to 65 031.7 tons. This indicates that the activity of this crop was boosted, due to an improvement in crop yields, it is also noteworthy that Tocache is the province with the highest cocoa production.
