The present work was carried out with the objective of comparing the nutritional content, food consumption, weight gain, health status and cost-benefit ratio of a natural diet (BARF) and a commercial diet (CROQUETTES) in Creole dogs to improve his body condition in Tarapoto. We worked with a total of 16 dogs, of which 8 were males and 8 females, with ages between 4 - 6 months of age, with similar weights and sizes, all classified within body condition 1 and 2. The animals were separated into 2 groups according to the diet used: 8 on the BARF diet (4 ♂ and 4♀) and 8 on the commercial diet (4 ♂ and 4 ♀). For the BARF Diet, age and weight were taken into account, corresponding to 8% of live weight. The ration consisted of 60% meaty bones, 20% meat with fat, 10% viscera and 10% Vegetables. The commercial diet was fed using a well-known brand of commercial food, provided according to their specifications. To analyze the chemical composition, 6 samples taken from different weeks were used. These samples were processed in the "Laboratory for Nutritional Evaluation of Foods", Academic Department of Nutrition of the Faculty of Zootechnics, UNALM. Feed consumption was determined with the difference between the weight of the feed given to each animal minus the rejected feed. The health status was measured through the body condition of each animal and the cost / benefit was the feed conversion by type of diet multiplied by the cost per Kg of each diet. It was observed that the natural BARF diet surpassed the diet based on commercial croquettes, in all the indicators of nutritional composition. The BARF diet was higher in its protein content (42.03% vs 31.62%; p-value <0.0001). Regarding consumption, higher consumption was observed in the commercial diet (croquettes), compared with the natural diet (BARF), both in total consumption (4326.75 g vs 4063.63 g), and in consumption per animal (540.84 g vs 507.95 g); however, this superiority was not significant (p-value = 0.4278). In health, the CC of BARF was 4 and the CC of CROQUETAS was 3. Finally, in the cost benefit, the difference in soles between diets to gain one kg of food is S /. 28.76. It was concluded that the BARF diet was superior in chemical composition, that there are no differences in the consumption of the diets and that the BARF diet gives better CC indices and finally the BARF diet has more economic benefit.
